Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.

I wanted to take this opportunity to remind all of us about the importance of acknowledging the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. His life and work have shaped our nation in powerful ways and its significance should not be overlooked. In addition to being remembered for his leadership of the Civil Rights Movement, Martin Luther King Jr. worked tirelessly to ensure justice and equitable laws for all Americans regardless of their race, religion, or background. His contribution to this cause can be seen in some of our nation’s most important civil rights legislation.
 
To honor Mr. King and all that he stood for, it is essential to commemorate this day as a reminder of our progress as a country and our commitment to ensuring that every person is treated with dignity and respect. As Americans, it is also important to use this day as an opportunity to better educate ourselves on the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and its implications for our society. This includes understanding the obstacles that he faced in achieving his goals and the progress we still have to make toward a truly “equal” and just society. 
 
On this day, let us not forget the struggle that Mr. King and so many others fought for and let us remember to continue striving for a society where everyone is free and equal. Thank you for your time and I hope that you use this day to reflect on the vital contributions of Martin Luther King Jr. to the United States and its people.
